1934 Austin 10 Saloon
Owned by myself and a friend in 1965. A man we knew had bought
it for his young son who dismantled the cylinder head and then got fed
up with it and left it parked outside his parents' house for a year -
we
got it for free so long as we would take it away. We fixed the
engine,
fitted new tyres and dampers and polished the bodywork - it was perfect
but we could not get the engine to run - there was half a tank of
petrol
but it had been standing for over a year and had become totally
non-inflamable.
We ran it for a while as a second car for each of us but being very
heavy
its performance was not exciting. It had the classic Austin 10
trick
of going faster if you took your foot off the accelerator. It was
eventually
sold for £60 - about 3 weeks' wages at the time.
- 4 cyl. 1125cc. Sidevalve.
- Semi-elliptic springs all round.
- Very heavy and quite slow - 55 mph.
