1934 Singer 9 Sports
- Singer 9 Sports owned by my uncle from 1951 to 1954. This
was,
even
in the '50s, a fast car. The OHC Singer engines were renowned for
their advanced design and had many sporting successes in the
'30s.
I remember going on camping trips in the Singer down to Cuckmere and
driving
right up the grass covered hills in the dirtiest of weather and
struggling
through a sea of mud in the valley bottom but never getting stuck.
When my uncle died I think the Singer was sold for £30, today a
good
one would be worth £7,000.
- 4 cyl. 972cc. OHC.
- 38 bhp, 75 mph.
- Fast motor. Similar to cars raced at Le Mans in 1934.
